Election Judges Needed

The April 2nd Election is quickly approaching. Are you interested in helping to make sure the election process runs smoothly? Become an election judge or site manager!

Here’s more information about those two different positions:

Election Judges – Lake County
The Lake County Clerk’s Office is seeking election judges to process voters in their neighborhood Election Day voting site during the April 2 Consolidated Election! If interested in becoming an election judge, click here to sign up, and someone will let you know how to apply.

Classes are now underway.
Election judges are paid based on successfully completing a three-hour in-person training class and their Election Day assignment.

Already an election judge? Provide your availability to the County Clerk’s Office as soon as possible and don’t forget to invite a friend to be an election judge!

The Pay Rate Schedule for Lake County Election Judges:

  • Base Pay (no current trained status) $80.00
  • “Trained” status. Basic or Advanced (every other year) $140.00
  • Optional Online Review Training, when available* add + $10.00
  • Certified Ballot Box Judge (if assigned) add + $40.00
  • Certified Voter Services Judge (if assigned) add + $25.00
  • Judge serving out of township (if needed) add + $10.00
  • Trained Nursing Home Judge** add + $30.00 *

*$10.00 additional for completing and passing online training, when available.
**Nursing home judges must serve on Friday or Saturday before Election Day, as well as Election Day.

Site Managers – Lake County
The Lake County Clerk’s Office is seeking current eligible election judges who are interested in serving as site managers at the April 2, 2019 Election. Site managers serve as a liaison to the Clerk’s Office and work alongside the assigned election judges to ensure an efficient and legal operation at each of the 121 polling sites.

Site Managers oversee all aspects of elections including:

  • pre-election setup
  • maintaining procedural adherence
  • assisting with questions and concerns on Election Day

Due to the additional responsibilities assigned to site managers, they must complete various training sessions. Monetary compensation is provided. For more information, please contact the Lake County Clerk’s Office at 847-377-2314.

The Cook County Clerk’s Office is looking for student judges.  The office partners with more than 80 high schools across suburban Cook County to engage students in the electoral process. More than 1,500 high school juniors and seniors serve as election judges each year. 

Student surveys show: 

  • 93% report being more likely to vote in the future 
  • 90% report that they would be willing to serve again in the future 

To qualify as a student judge, you must: 

  • Be a high school senior or junior 
  • Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale 
  • Be a U.S. citizen by the next election 
  • Be able to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Successfully complete an election judge training course conducted by the Clerk’s office 
  • Have written consent from your principal and a parent or legal guardian. Pending school policy, this signed consent will excuse students from attending school on Election Day 
  • Reside in Cook County
